Carbon Footprint
We are one of the only salt producers in the world that has completed a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of our process and salt products. LCA is a technique to assess environmental impacts associated with all the stages of a product's life from cradle to grave. It compares the full range of environmental impacts assignable to products and services by quantifying all inputs and outputs of material flows and assessing how these material flows have an impact on the environment.
This process has included energy saving initiatives such as the installation of a state of the art solar / battery system which supplies our remote camp’s power needs. For almost the entire year our electrical power is supplied by the sun and the need for diesel powered generators is no longer required. These initiatives may be expensive when implementing but the long term benefit to Mother Nature is invaluable.
We have deliberately decided not to pump brine into our ponds at Lake Deborah but rather allow the wind to fill the producing ponds during the winter rains. With the help of the sun this cycle is completed every year. Naturally and sustainably our salt is produced with minimal intervention by man. Lake Deborah regenerates itself every year and creates our unique Lake Salt. Although we are at the mercy of the climate the end result is that the lake produces the salt the way it has for thousands of years.
We are proud of the fact that we strive to be one of the lowest producers of CO2 emissions in the industry. We proudly display our unique carbon footprint logo on our products.
